Semagluti is a new generation (glucagon-like peptide-1) analogues. Sema is a long-acting dosage form based on the basic structure of liraglutide, which is more effective in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Compared with lilarlutide, somalutide has a longer aliphobic chain and an increased hydrophobicity, but somalutide is modified with a short chain of PEG, and its hydrophilicity is greatly enhanced.PEG modification can not only tightly bind to albumin, cover up the DPP-4 enzymatic hydrolysis site, but also reduce renal excretion, prolong the biological half-life, and achieve the effect of long circulation.
It is used to treat type 2 diabetes and manage chronic weight. The drug functions similar to human glucagon-like peptide-1 () by increasing secretion, which leads to improved sugar metabolism. It is distributed as a metered subcutaneous injection in a prefilled pen, or as an oral form.
